Position Description
The Head of Trade Compliance EMEA ensures that international trade activities comply with relevant laws, regulations, and company policies. This individual leads a team and works closely with various departments to develop, implement, and maintain effective trade compliance programs.
Key Responsibilities:
- Trade Compliance: Stay updated on evolving trade regulations, including customs laws, sanctions, embargoes, and export controls across jurisdictions. Interpret and communicate regulatory requirements to stakeholders.
- SAP GTS: Manage all trade compliance processes run in SAP GTS, incl. the tariff classification and the export classification process
- Policy Development: Develop and enforce trade compliance policies and procedures to ensure legal adherence. Implement processes for screening, classification, and licensing of goods and technology.
- Risk Assessment: Conduct regular assessments to identify and mitigate trade compliance risks. Address issues proactively and develop strategies to minimize penalties and liabilities.
- Training and Awareness: Provide training to employees involved in international trade. Foster a culture of compliance through ongoing education and awareness initiatives.
- Internal Collaboration: Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including legal, finance, tax, supply chain, and logistics, to integrate compliance into business operations. Act as a subject matter expert.
- External Relationships: Build and maintain relationships with government agencies, trade associations, and industry peers to stay informed on regulatory changes and best practices. Represent the company in discussions with regulatory authorities.
- Audits and Investigations: Coordinate internal audits and investigations to ensure compliance. Address findings and implement corrective actions. Manage external customs import/export audits and coordinate internal support activities.
- EMEA Team Leadership: Lead and manage an international team of trade compliance professionals. Ensure alignment with organizational goals and provide direction, support, and resources for success.
Position Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in business, Law, International Relations, or a related field. Advanced degree or professional certification in trade compliance preferred.
- Extensive experience in trade compliance roles within multinational corporations, with a focus on import/export regulations, sanctions, and export controls.
- Strong knowledge of international trade laws and regulations, including customs and export control (EU and U.S.) laws.
- Extensive SAP GTS experience, especially in the areas of legal control and SPL screening.
- Proven ability to develop and implement trade compliance programs that manage risk and ensure regulatory compliance.
